BEARS MILL/DARKE COUNTY

There were literally more than a dozen schools within 10 miles of this mill. I am sure that more than a few student's mothers shopped here for their flour and other goods. The mill was built in 1849, and is still in operation today. The site of the mill, as well as the water rights, was granted to Major George Adams by President James Monroe. This mill was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1975.
